Ocean of Aeolian (Magic Carpet Tour)

Here’s a much requested backing track to the Ocean of Aeolian from the Guitar Shred Show game Magic Carpet Tour. As the name suggest this backing track is ideal for Aeolian mode practicing. In the key of A. Chord progression is simple Am – G – F. If you’d want a super pure aeolian sound you should have only Am in the back. But we like it more musical, right!
When improvising it seems that you can use any of the mode notes (or even any outside note) and make them sound good if you have a motivated melody line or thought you’re after. If you have trouble making it melodig, try putting the guitar in the corner for a while and try singing along the backingtrack. Keep it simple. Now try to play similar lines with the guitar.
For the beginning I’d first recommend to base the playing on A minor pentatonic notes (A – C – D – E- G – A). These are the most strongest and valid notes. Once trying to stay inside the pentatonic notes try spicing it up by adding the rest of the notes ( B and F ) as passing notes. Remember: in the end the ear is the judge. If it sounds good. it is good!
Happy Jamming!
