Mika Tyyskä Biography


Mika Tyyskä, Finnish musician, is best known by his work with cartoon guitarist and mentor Mr. Fastfinger. Mr. Fastfinger was originally created for the incredibly successful website Guitar Shred Show in 2005. Mika soon gained worldwide respect from guitar players and the website wons many important multimedia awards.

Charismatic Mr. Fastfinger inspired Mika to explore the possibilities of instrumental rock, and to find his own voice on the guitar. Mika collaborated with companies like Hughes & Kettner and TC Electronic. Soon Mika got to do various clinics and demos in Europe and in Japan. The next big step was Mr. Fastfinger’s debut album “The Way of the Exploding Guitar”. Album featured guests appearances by Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Mattias IA Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), Christophe Godin (Möglbl), and Niko Tsonev (Steven Wilson Band).

In 2012, Mika Tyyskä joined the company of great guitar players at Jam Track Central. Mika was featured along side with some of the most respected and successful guitarists in the world – Guthrie Govan, Andy James, Marco Sfogli and more. Mika has released various jam and lick packages though the british company. Mr. Fastfinger’s second album “In Motion” was also released, it featured such great guests as Thomas Blug, Timo Kämäräinen and Jordan Rudess.

In 2013 Mika started collaborating with game company Yousician. He created guitar etudes for the music game Guitarbots.  Digital EP release “Stringweaver” is a soundtrack to some of this guitar game music work.

In 2015 a 30 minutes long Mr. Fastfinger movie was released. “The Spirit of the Guitar Hunt” is the result of a collaboration between Mika Tyyskä and guitar maker Juha Ruokangas. Also Mr. Fastfinger’s 4th release “Spirit Rising” was released. Album is a soundtrack to the movie and features many guest appearances from musicians such as Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Michael Angelo Batio, Kai Hahto (Nightwish, Wintersun), Jan-Olof Strandberg and Kristoffer Gildenlöw (ex-Pain of Salvation). Mika toured in europe and asia. Back at Finland he was awarded with a arts scholarship from Aktia-foundation.

Over the years Mika has done many clinics and master classes in various european countries. He’s also been honored to guest appear at both Mattias IA Eklundh’s and Christophe Godin’s guitar camps. Since 2007 he’s been a teacher for Modern Music School‘s Professional Guitar Class in Germany.  He has also created educational content for the french Bendnote and finnish Rockway online schools.

Mr. Fastfinger’s music is now also performed with a full live band. The band is currently preparing to do set of live shows in 2016. The musicians in Mr. Fastfinger’s live band are: Mika Tyyskä (guitar), Thomas Törnroos (drums), Lasse Rantanen (bass) and Kalle Katz (keyboards).

At times Mika works as a session musician. He’s been honored to work with producers like James Spectrum (Pepe Deluxe), Marko Nyberg (Husky Rescue). Mika also plays in other bands KaKalMas, Mauron Maiden, Metallica Tribute (with Kai Hahto and Mikko Herranen) and has been seen on stage with some of the best finnish and international musicians. He works also as an animator too. In addition to his work with Mr. Fastfinger, his best known works are his cartoon animations he’s done for the band Dream Theater.

Mika proudly endorses and uses Hughes & Kettner amplifiers, Ruokangas guitars, D’Addario strings, Guitar Pro 6 software and Finfonic ear protection.
